I got these alloys about a year ago for free off craigslist. As you can see they weren't in the best condition, but they beat my steelies w/hubcaps!
I've been wanting to repaint them since the beginning but haven't had the time/motivation/knowledge until just recently.
I experimented with Tal-Strip Aircraft Coating remover but found that their Paint Remover Extra Strength worked out better overall. I ended up realizing later that covering up the tire wasn't really necessary for the paint removal phase and would just require more work since the washing/cleaning phase would pretty much obliterate the cover.
I probably ended up using like 6-7 cans of these two paint removers, might have gone faster if I just had just stuck with the Paint Remover in the first place.. I ended up cleaning the nearby Kragen's out of this chemical.
The black paint wouldn't come off completely and needed a lot of scrubbing and sanding to get it off. Unfortunately I didn't snap any pics after I had removed the paint. Here are some pics of the wheels as I sprayed them.
Here are pics of the wheels on my car after two sprays of silver metallic and one of clearcoat.
Now I just need to find some small center caps to fit over the axle nut and rear hub bearing housing!
